Sean Emery: We have to be willing to stand up and fight

Like my fellow reporters, photographers, designers and editors, I consider working for the Orange County Register and the Southern California News Group an honor and a privilege. I love my job, and I am grateful for the opportunity to tell the stories of those I cover and to be part of a team that is there to provide key information to our readers during some of the area's darkest times. None of us are blind to the difficult times the news industry is going through, and I recognize that our company’s leaders and management team have kept us afloat. But I have also watched with sadness the departure of so very many talented colleagues, while the number — and salaries — of remaining reporters have stagnated. We need the resources to continue covering the community at the level our readers deserve, and we have to be willing to stand up and fight for the future of our newspapers.

Sean Emery is a reporter for the Orange County Register/SCNG.
