Elizabeth Chou: Why we need a union

I support having a union because as local reporters, we have seen the whittling away of our ability to cover the news at its most grassroots level. With every wave of furloughs, buyouts and layoffs, we have suffered losses that go unacknowledged, and we have thus far seen very little collective effort to fight against those losses. And that has cheapened what we do, with life going on as if nothing really happened. But we can't keep acting this way. What we do is not cheap.

Elizabeth Chou is a reporter for the Los Angeles Daily News/SCNG.
