Deepa Bharath: Why we need a union

Regardless of who owns the paper, I believe that forming a union is the only way for us to sit down and talk with management about decisions that have an impact not just on how we cover our communities and serve our readers, but that affect our lives and livelihoods. We need long-overdue wage increases, equity in opportunities and pay, and a newsroom that represents the communities we cover. We need a nurturing environment where journalists who have long served with passion and commitment are valued, and where a new generation of journalists can grow. We need hope for the future.

Deepa Bharath is a reporter for the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin/SCNG.
