Darius Johari: Our communities deserve better

I support a union because our communities deserve better news coverage. Since our newsrooms have been slashed, we have seen the death of local news. Southern California News Group papers are consolidating and sharing content and we have become heavily reliant on elite news organizations. Even before the pandemic, we have seen our numbers continue to shrink as layoffs and furloughs swept our newsroom while the company kept the same demands. Smaller newsrooms and fewer journalists mean less coverage. Unionized, we can ensure that our co-workers keep their jobs and our communities get the quality journalism they deserve.
