Colleen Shalby: Solidarity from a Guild journalist

We have the right to speak up for each other and to change the status quo — that's what the Guild has taught me. Our collective fight for fair pay and equal representation at the L.A. Times has changed my life. And knowing that we have the ability to actively protect and strengthen the future of our newsrooms is an empowering reality.

Colleen Shalby is a reporter for the Los Angeles Times and a member of the L.A. Times Guild. She serves as secretary for Media Guild of the West.
